ERASMUS programme

What is Erasmus?

The principal aim of the Erasmus programme is to enrich European dimension of higher education. It promotes mobility of students and professors within European Union by means of bilateral agreements among university institutions.

This mobility programme has experienced different stages. At the beginning Erasmus started by means of PIC (Interuniversity Cooperation Programmes) and later it took part of the Socrates Programme (1997/98 -2006/07). At present, this type of European mobility is entering a new stage being integrated into the Lifelong Learning Programme, 2007/08 – 2012/13, and supporting the Building of European Higher Education Area.

The Erasmus programme has the following aims:

  • Allow students to get educational, linguistic and cultural benefits from a learning experience in other European countries.
  • Promote cooperation between universities and enrich educational environment of the host institutions.
  • Contribute to the creation of higly qualified young professionals allowing them to become open-minded and obtain international experience.
  • Facilitate credits transparency and academic recognition of international stays by means of ECTS.

How to take part

It is necessary to apply in the previous course, during the period of an open call (December/January).


Students interested in taking part in this kind of European mobility can apply for one of the places offered in their study area that are published with the call. It is not possible to apply for a place at a university that does not appear on the list, nor apply for a study area that is not present in the offer.

Lenght of stay:

El període d'estada d'un estudiant Erasmus en una altra universitat europea varia en funció de cada plaça i de cada conveni. El període d'estudis mínim és de 3 mesos i el màxim és de 12 mesos, dins un mateix curs acadèmic. Cada plaça té fixat un nombre determinat de mesos.


After submitting applications a selection of candidates is made at the UdL and places are assigned to them.

After selection:

The contact with the destination university is established. After accepting the student, he/she enjoys the Erasmus condition. He/she enrols at UdL and carries out a part of his/her studies at the destination university without having to pay for any enrolment fees there.

Students are in charge of the organization of the travel and practical aspects related with their stay.
